Laser vision correction procedures, like LASIK, utilize laser technology to reshape the cornea back to its original form.
During the LASIK procedure, you will relax in a reclining chair. Your eye will be numbed with drops, making the procedure as painless as possible. Next, a special instrument called a microkeratome will be used to gently fold over a thin segment of the top layer of corneal tissue, exposing the area of the cornea that needs correction.
Your eye surgeon will then use an excimer laser to gently reshape your cornea. This laser treatment is painless and typically only takes a few minutes to complete. Next, your surgeon will gently fold the top layer of corneal tissue back into position, and apply a liquid solution so the tissue will heal without the need for sutures.
After the procedure, you will be asked to rest your eyes for the remainder of the day. You can expect to be back to your normal routine within one to three days following your LASIK procedure.
